He was addressing a special meeting of officers of Capital city police at CPO here today. The meeting was attended by Addl. IG Operations Rafique Hasan, CCPO Lahore Aslam Tareen, DIG Operations Lahore Rao Sardar Ali, SSP Investigation Zulfiqar Hameed, Chief Traffic Officer Syed Mobeen Ahmed and all divisional SPs of city. The meeting reviewed in detail law & order / crime situation in the provincial metropolis and took some important decisions in this regard. CCPO Aslam Tareen briefed the meeting about the arrangements made for maintenance of law & order on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha and Moharram-ul-Haram. He also threw light on the measures being taken for controlling heinous / street crimes in the city.
While addressing the meeting, IG stressed upon the officers of Lahore police that comprehensive and coordinated security plan should be evolved for maintenance of law & order during Eid-ul-Azha and Moharram-Ul-Haram. He maintained that all senior police officers should personally brief the officials down the line for apprising them of possible threats of terrorism, so that the security arrangements could be implemented in letter and spirit.
He said that any sort of negligence in discharging security duties would not be tolerated and the divisional SPs will be held responsible in this regard. He directed that no unidentified person should be allowed to participate in the majalis / precessions and modern resources / equipments should be utilized for checking and screening. He also said that special emphasis should be laid on the security and protection of shrines / Darbars and regular meetings be held with the managements of Mosques & Imam Bargahs.
The IG further directed that close liaison should be kept with the members of Mohalla and peace committees and special crackdown be launched against organized criminal gangs, Proclaimed Offenders and religious extremists for the eradication of heinous /street crime and other social evils, so that complete sense of security could be provided to the citizens. He maintained that modern investigation techniques should be adopted for the detection of cases of heinous crime and for this purpose special teams comprising the competent and expert investigation officers / officials be constituted.
