Modern traffic signal system installed at 21 intersections

RAWALPINDI (APP)-Rawalpindi city has most modern traffic control system which has been initially installed at 21 main intersections of Rawalpindi city including at busiest road of the town, Benazir Bhutto Road (Murree Road).

This was stated by Director General (DG) Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) Chaudhary Naseer while talking to APP. He said that Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) had signed Rs 32 million agreement with a foreign company for installing a software to control traffic in the city.

The new traffic control system which has been installed is working with an Australian software. The system is successfully regulating traffic in 154 cities of 25 countries worldwide. He told that according to the agreement, the company Tollink has installed modern traffic control system at 21 busy intersections of Rawalpindi city including six of Benazir Bhutto Road, four of Saidpur Road, one of Rashid Minhas Road, two of Liaquat Road, one at sixth road and four traffic signals of Airport road. The software automatically turns the signals green and red according to the volume of the traffic, he added.

The control room of the computerized traffic control system is in Rawalpindi Development Authority’s building. Initially, the traffic control system has been installed on the most overloaded intersections of the city. The traffic control system can also be installed on other intersections of the town, he said.

He said the modern traffic control system brought and installed here in Pakistan for the first time and it is helping to control traffic load which has become a great trouble for the citizens.

He said the new traffic control system measures traffic load at intersections through censors and turns the signals, green or red according to the traffic load. All the intersections where the most modern traffic control system have been installed also have security camera facility which will help control crime in the city.

To a question he said, the system installed here has the capacity of 250 signals and even traffic signals of Rawalpindi Cantonment areas and Islamabad can also be operated through this system.
