Two held with smuggled weapons

LAHORE: The Crime Investigation Agency of police has arrested two weapon smugglers and seized from them a huge cache of rifles, pistols and bullets. CIA SP Umer Virk told a news conference on Thursday that a police team stopped a car at Thokar Niaz Beg checkpost, searched the car and found weapons and bullets in the boot section and specially-designed hidden portions.

Police seized 28 8MM pump action, 53 12-bore repeaters, 203 30-bore pistols, 19 pistols, nine 30-bore pistol tracers and 10,000 bullets and cartridges. He said Yawar Hameed Bhatti and Rehan Bhatti, both residents of Sahiwal, would smuggle illegal weapons from the tribal belt of KP to Punjab and sell to weapon dealers and criminal elements with the help of their accomplices.

The SP said their potential buyers belonged to Lahore, Okara, Sahiwal and other districts of the province. He said a case had been registered against the suspects and investigation had been launched to track down other suspects.
