A total of 37,306 proclaimed offenders and 27,003 court absconders were arrested during the year.  Punjab Police Spokesperson

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Rao Sardar Ali Khan has directed that immediate action be taken against the proclaimed offenders, court absconders and possessors of illegal weapons across the province.  IG Punjab has directed all  supervisory officers of the province to conduct self-monitoring of intelligence based operations for the arrest of POs and CAs and to take action against the professional group involved in organized crime under zero tolerance policy.  Rao Sardar Ali Khan said that IT based policing is helping in eradicating organized crime so full use should be made of all the applications developed with regard to modern policing and effective use of modern technology should be ensured.  Instructing to make crackdown more effective for eradication of illegal arms, IG Punjab said that those who spread fear and panic among the citizens by displaying arms do not deserve any sympathy.  He directed that action should be taken against the dealers involved in sale and purchase of illegal arms and reports of these activities should be sent to the Central Police Office regularly.
Spokesperson Punjab Police while giving details of crackdown against proclaimed offenders, court absconders and possessors of illegal weapons this year said that a total of 37306 proclaimed offenders  and 27003 court absconders were detained this year.
Similarly, 18,832 cases were registered against illegal arms holders across the province while 18,824 were arrested and 15 grenades, 608 Kalashnikovs, 1,413 rifles, 1,863 short guns, 15073 pistols and 204,121 bullets were recovered from  possession of  arrested persons.  Regarding the crackdown in the provincial capital Lahore,  Punjab police spokesperson said that 4604 proclaimed offenders and 6197 court absconders were arrested from Lahore this year.  In Lahore, 2007 cases were registered against those possessing illegal weapons and 2010 persons were arrested against whom further legal action is being taken.
