Central Police Office (CPO), Punjab


Headed by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Headquarters, who reports to the Inspector General of Police, Punjab. The branch deals with:

  1. Postings and transfers of the Gazetted Officers i.e. Senior Superintendents, Superintendents and the Deputy and Assistant Superintendents of police.
  2. Maintenance of records of postings of Gazetted Officers.
  3. Promotions of Inspectors to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police.
  4. Promotion of Deputy Superintendents to the rank of Superintendent of Police.
  5. Service matters pertaining to officers in the above mentioned ranks.

The Branch is headed by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Establishment, who reports to the Additional IGP, Punjab. The branch deals with the following matters:

  1. Promotion from the rank of SI to Inspector.
  2. Confirmation of Inspectors.
  3. Maintenance of seniority lists of officers in the rank of Inspectors, Sub-Inspectors, and Assistant Sub-Inspectors.
  4. Decisions on appeals for revision of seniority lists.
  5. Inter-region transfers of officers.
  6. Decision on behalf of the IGP, Punjab on all appeals against punishments awarded to constables and head constables serving in all districts of the Punjab.
  7. Processing of cases for gallantry awards.
Inspection & Vigilance

The Inspection and Vigilance Cell was established on 25-06-2005 by Mr. Zia-ul-Hassan Khan, the then Inspector-General of Police, Punjab. The Cell is being headed by DIG/I&V Cell. For the purpose of efficient working of the Cell one officer of the rank of SSP/SP was posted as the Member, Inspection and Vigilance Cell in each Region including Capital City District Lahore in the Punjab. Who perform as Member I&V Cell in addition to their respective assignments at their place of posting. The posts of AIG/Vigilance and AIG/Inspections were created in October 2008.

Legal Affairs Division

This Division of Punjab Police comprises law officers of Punjab Police who provide legal assistance to their respective units/formations. At the Central Police Office (CPO), Punjab, the Legal Branch deals with all sub judice matters in which the IGP has been made a party. It is also responsible for furnishing legal opinion on service/court matters and other issues concerning the Punjab Police, referred to it.

Research & Development

The Research and Development Branch of the Central Police Office (CPO), Punjab is responsible for policy research. The branch carries out in-depth studies of long and short term issues concerning administration and working of police. The branch is currently working on drafting of Police Rules. The branch is headed by an officer of the rank of an Additional Inspector-General of Police, who reports to the IGP, Punjab. He is assisted by a Director of the rank of a DIG and a Deputy Director of the rank of Superintendent or Senior Superintendent of Police.

Training Branch

Training of police force with a view to enable them to face challenges of increasing crime, public order problems and terrorism etc. is a gigantic task. It requires a large number of properly equipped and staffed training institutions and more importantly, a proper Training Branch for policy making, planning, training, need analysis and for monitoring and evaluation of training institutions.

Training Branch is headed by Additional IGP/Training (assisted by a DIG/Training), who reports to the IGP, Punjab. The branch is responsible for the guidance, supervision, control and coordination of Police College Sihala, Police College Lahore, Elite Police Training School Lahore, and Police Wireless Training School Bahawalpur.

Punjab Police Computer Bureau

The Punjab Police Computer Bureau (PCB) is headed by the Additional Director Computers, who reports to the Additional Inspector-General of Police, Investigation. It was established in 1987 and was one of the first IT establishments in Government of the Punjab departments. The role of Police Computer Bureau is to provide: 

  • Computerization of Police Station Record and Office Management System in Punjab.
  • Automation and Management of Finger Print Identification System in Punjab.
  • Provision of technical support in analyzing, designing, development, implementation, monitoring & troubleshooting of different IT related projects.
  • Bureau services regarding computerization, technical support for purchase of hardware.
  • Bureau services regarding development of different softwares for different sections/Branches of the Punjab Police.
  • Computer training of the police officers/officials as and when required.
  • Web-based study on any given topic.
  • Any other assignment given by the IGP, Addl. IGP(s) & DIG(s), regarding computerization.
Welfare and Finance

The Branch is headed by the Additional Inspector-General of Police, Welfare & Finance, who reports to the IGP Punjab. The branch administers budget, expenditure, purchases and welfare funds of the Punjab Police. The Branch maintains the Punjab Police Welfare Fund since the Police Department is not governed by the West Pakistan Government Servants Benevolent Fund Rules, 1960.
